It is part of a 2 drive mirrored storage array that I used to save everything worth saving, relying on the redundancy to save my bacon should equipment failure occur.

In this, it worked well. The existing drive had everything I saved, and Western Digital was fantastic, their RMA process is a joy to use. However, rebuilding the array caused me some troubles.

Once I got the new drive, I backed up what I could from the one good drive to another drive, just in case (good thing too). For some reason, I had taken the drive out of the array, which I think caused me this trouble. I installed the new drive, took note of which cable went where (so I thought), and proceeded to use the onboard RAID controller to create the new array. I think I may have chosen the wrong drive though when starting the rebuild, as now I have a shiny new 1tb of blank, unpartitioned space in my mirrored array. Thankfully what I lost wasn't terribly important, mostly game backups and other nicknacks, I saved the irreplaceable pictures on another drive as well as my Mac mini just to be safe.

However, I will be much more careful in the future should this happen again, and I will probably do a little more digging to see what the proper procedure is for replacing a drive in a mirrored array.Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-7815611751873322652009-07-07T05:26:00.000-07:002009-07-07T05:28:31.443-07:00Lifted weights today...I figured I need to give my thighs a rest today after biking yesterday, so today was weight training for my arms. Followed my Dr's advice and just did as many reps as I could 3 times for each exercise. They're a little tired but I'm feeling good this morning.

I also decided to take the stairs today. I made it up 5 flights to my floor, then realized I had forgotten my ID badge to get in. Fortunately my wife was able to let me in.Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-15290547749461720972009-07-06T17:31:00.001-07:002009-07-06T17:33:39.239-07:00Biking, day 1.Started a new work out regimen today. I've lost about 10 lbs so far but I hate walking with a passion. I used to bike 50 miles a week and was at my skinniest then (I also wasn't eating nearly as often, mostly due to lack of funds), so I figured I would give biking a try again.

I made it 3 miles, which wasn't too bad actually. Legs are a little weak but not too much so, and I feel like I got something out of it. The morning was beautiful, lower 70's, and very pleasant. Since this was the first day out, I didn't know what to expect but now that I have a goal to shoot for, I can try to push it a little further every day and see how much farther I can go.Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-89312231100211138092009-06-01T12:36:00.000-07:002009-06-01T12:38:17.593-07:00I hate 50% moonsSeriously, the fishing in FFXI when the moon is at or near the 50% mark. It's completely unbearable, 5-8 no catches in a row followed by 3 monsters. I get they want us to go find other things to do but come on...Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-50343258770587923452009-01-29T14:45:00.001-08:002009-01-29T14:45:35.076-08:00I’m back!
I’m back in the game and I’ve decided to try to resurrect my blog. I’m not sure what direction I want to take, but I know I want to post so we’ll see where this goes :)
Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-34155043123949228132008-06-25T10:10:00.001-07:002008-06-25T10:20:32.166-07:00Crafting in FFXI - Sample Video I madeThe video is an example of how to craft in FFXI. You get crystals from monsters defeated when you have your nations Signet active, or you can buy them from the Auction House. You then use the crystal in combination with items (recipes are available online or from your crafting guild NPCs) to create new items. In the example below, the crafting animation shows what a High Quality (HQ) synth looks like. Depending on the level of the crafter's skill and the level of the recipe, you can potentially create HQ items or in this case, more than one item.

Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-45921895932278254662008-06-23T13:24:00.000-07:002008-06-23T13:30:17.533-07:00Getting Started in Final Fantasy XIFound a couple of good starters guides:

General Starters Guide
Starting guide specific to WindurstWinthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8551700547233370262.post-76288574767828817272008-04-10T17:26:00.001-07:002008-04-14T13:53:44.552-07:00VS 2003 XML Comments & Intellisense
If you're like me, you create a class and then not 5 minutes later forget some details about it and having Intellisense would help you remember not only what the class is for, but what each property in the class is used for as well.

Have you ever added XML commenting to your project, and then noticed that those comments don't show up in Intellisense? Something like this:

In-between the
tags are details you can include about the class/property/etc.

Notice though, when you mouse over a reference to that class in your code, your nice little summary comment doesn't show up, only the header shows:

Having these comments show up isn't a default setting in Visual Studio 2003, you need to enable them before they will be displayed. To do so, right click on the project in the Solution Explorer, then go to Properties. In the properties window, click on Configuration Properties and make sure Build is the one selected. At the bottom, you'll see a field in the Outputs section called XML Documentation File. It's probably blank. You need to tell it what the settings file will be named. This should be the name of your project with a .xml extension. So in my project, this would be:

After you do this, rebuild the project (not build, rebuild will actually generate the XML file, build does not from what I can determine). This will create an xml file in the project's folder:

Please note that changing this setting will cause anything that hasn't been commented to have a warning generated when you compile the code. This doesn't stop the compile from happening and it doesn't show up in the Output window since it's only a warning, but on any publicly visible types or members that don't have a comment you will have the blue underline with this comment:

This doesn't affect your project adversely at all, I just thought I should mention this so that if you decide to use this technique, but don't want to comment everything, you may see some of this behavior.

If you currently had a reference to the project before you rebuilt it with the changes made to generate the XML file, you will have to delete that reference and re-add it in order for the comments to be picked up. If you make any changes to the summaries, it requires you re-add the references each time to show the changes made. I'm not sure why this is, and I'm researching to see why this is required.

Now when you mouse over the reference, you should see your comment:

This is a nice intro to C# and XML source code documentation.

http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/csharpcodedocumentation.asp

MSDN entry on the /doc tag for the compiler, as well as links to how the XML documentation file works.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cscomp/html/vcerrDocProcessDocumentationComments.asp
Winthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10714007429828465664noreply@blogger.com0
